The excitement of winning a horse race is most enjoyable no matter where you win, but if you are lucky enough to win at Royal Randwick or at Warwick Farm, it's an even more exciting experience!
The AJC hosts more group races than any other club in Australia. These include 17 Group One races, 13 Group Two races and 19 Group Three races. Group racing is considered the pinnacle of Australian racing. Historically the best horses in Australasia compete in these races, hence the reason why these races command so much respect. Prize money variations exist amongst the group races. NSW Industry standards have been introduced for minimum prize money levels. As from 1 August 2008:
The AJC distributes more prizemoney each year than it actually receives in revenue through its TAB contract. The total prize money and subsidies distributed to Owner’s in 2006 was $33.8 million.
The AJC offers numerous world-class training tracks of grass, dirt and sand surfaces, both at Royal Randwick and Warwick Farm. Approximately 638 horses are in training at Royal Randwick and 590 in training at Warwick Farm. The AJC has three grass racing surfaces - the Course Proper at Royal Randwick, the Kensington track (the inner track at Royal Randwick) and Warwick Farm.
The AJC training facilities play an integral part in the development and education of a racehorse. The club offers largely subsidised training costs of approx 80% to its trainers and ensuing owners at both Royal Randwick and Warwick Farm racecourses.
The following information is designed to assist owners attending AJC meetings. It also contains links to useful websites, which provide information on being or becoming an owner.
